Though Borugh houses two of London's great attractions - Borough Market and The Shard - there is still plenty to chow down on besides these two legends of the City. Here is a list of's best places to eat in Borough.

The little sister restaurant to Tramshed in Shoreditch, Hixter Bankside brings the cool to Borough. The site was once a metal box factory and the interior echo’s this vibe with lots of metal, exposed brick and neon. Focusing again mainly on chicken or beef, mains include roast chicken, chicken piri piri, chicken salad, chicken burger or chicken curry or an assortment of cuts of beef steaks. The chicken is sourced from Swaison House in Lanacashire and the beef is aged in a Himalayan salt chamber in Glenarm Estate, Northern Ireland. The main room features a Himalayan salt-brick wall which acts as a reminder and shows off the extent of thought behind what your eating. Be sure to head down for their bottomless brunch on Saturdays from 10.30am, Bloody Mary’s, Prosecco or HIX Fix available with their brunch menu.

Based in Borough Market, Roast source all ingredients from British farmers and producers, many of whom are stallholders in the market. Set over two levels, the restaurant boasts 120 covers that includes views of The Shard, St Paul’s, Borough Market beneath them and a sneaky peak inside the kitchen. Every day includes a changing Roast special which include Twice-cooked shoulder of Yorkshire lamb with spring bubble ‘n’ squeak served with mum’s mint relish, or Roast rare breed suckling pig with mashed potato and Bramley apple sauce. Aside from roasts, if you fancied something lighter, they also have chargrilled Torbay Dover sole and a wild rabbit and snail pie on the menu.

A floor above Oblix, The Shard’s Hutong is the London counterpart of a much-loved restaurant in Hong Kong. Its speciality is Northern Chinese cuisine, bringing something of the Orient to London’s newest landmark, thirty-three floors up. Most atmospheric at dusk, grab a table and watch the sun set while devouring delicate little dishes such as crispy soft shell crab, and fried prawns in Jasmine tealeaves. There’s nothing brash here, just expertly crafted dishes a world away from London.

Elliot’s menu is created seasonally and with a little inspiration from the neighboring stalls at Borough Market, where they also source some of their ingredients. This being so, no two visits may be the same as its constantly featuring new dishes but always reinforcing and advertising the foodie plethora that is the market. Situated on Stoney Street its vibe is relaxed, informal and all about the food. The menu is split between small plates and then onto a variety of 40 days dry-aged Dexter beef cuts with an assortment of sides. Small plates include oysters, chicken hearts, pigs head terrine and lamb sweetbreads.

The second site opened by Porkys BBQ has come Bankside and offers a really fun experience. Inspired by American food they serve up meaty ribs, homemade bbq sauce, juicy burgers, whole smoked chickens and pulled pork that’s been cooked for 16 hours. Taking the American theme further they offer their own Man vs Ribs challenge (after the TV show) where finishing the ribs portion results in a meal on the house. Monday is all you can eat ribs, Tuesday is all you can eat pulled pork and Wednesday is all you can eat chicken – all for £19 which is a pretty good bargain if you ask me.

Another take-over by Gordon Ramsay but this time in the form of quality food with Italian influences and a daily changing menu that’s prepared in an open theatre style kitchen. They source ingredients from the Mediterranean which adds to the authenticity and the moody interior with dim lights and red slouchy sofas gives a great ambiance. It’s the perfect place for a pre or post theatre dinner and the bar is open until 2am on Thursday thorough to Saturday, which provides an idyllic place to continue your stay. You can expect melt in your mouth hand made pastas, perfectly cooked fish or delicate cuts of lamb and pork belly.

Nailing it yet again, the expansion of The Wright Brothers across London is taking the seafood scene to another level. Their menu offers only one dish which has not come from the sea, which is a pretty solid concept and one that they truly deliver. Smoked mackerel pate, fish soup, moules mariniere, dressed Cornish crab can all be found on the menu and that’s not including the roast sea bream, the sea bass, the lemon sole or the turbot for two!

Set inside the new Mondrian Hotel, Sea Containers is a restaurant that serves food inspired by the golden age of transatlantic travel and the bounty of local fresh produce. The menu is a combination of English and American food stemmed from the brains of New York Chef Seamus Mullen who acts as Culinary Director and Executive Chef Michael Stenekes. They are all about ‘cooking with delicious things that can make us feel better’ and with an extensive Breakfast and Brunch menu they certainly deliver. Its not a cheap place to eat, but definitely recommended for a special occasion; the view of the river is the icing on the cake.

Located under Victorian railway arches Cantina Vinopolis serves contemporary European dishes in an interior decked out with vaulted ceilings, exposed bricks and barrels to sit on. Executive Chef Moges Wolde has created a most appetizing menu featuring Wild Sea Bass ceviche served with pomegranate and scallion bellini’s, terrine of foie gras and girolle mushrooms served with pain d’epice and quince jelly and a Venison dish served with chestnut puree and winter greens. I could quote the whole menu to you as it all sounds so sophisticated and exciting. The wine list is extensive (they offer wine tasting sessions at varying prices) with the list offering wine from all over the world and inside the restaurant is a perfect wine-tasting area where you are encouraged to try not only the wines, but the whiskey and the rum too!

With Shakespeare’s Globe in your title, there’s a lot of pressure to live up to the iconic name, however, in a setting like this, with the Globe next door and the views of the Thames and the City in front of you, it sets the scene for a really visually exciting visit. The prices are reasonable despite what you may initially think, the food is great and the menu offers plenty of choice. The cocktail menu provides an assortment of palette cleansers and digestives (all seasonal) and they also host a variety of artisan beers. Its very popular with pre-theatre diners but if your in the area early on its worth getting down if only just to take advantage of this deal; 3 courses for £24.

Anatolian Turkish food has caught up with London surprisingly quickly and Tas Pide have currently got 15 restaurants dotted around the city. Starting with The Cut, in Southwark, they have numerous branches that have capitalized on the success including one on Chancery Lane. Anatolia covers the vast majority of land in the Turkish Republic, except for the European part; the term denotes the westernmost protrusion of Asia. Anatolian Turkish Cuisine is extremely varied and here is a perfect place to get acquainted. You can expect mezze platters, iskender, lentil soup and a really large mixed grill all served with warm flat breads and tzatziki.
