Dominated by the centrally located robata grill, fish, poultry, meat and vegetables are prepared in full view of diners at the surrounding counter and tables. In warm weather the glass walls open onto the street outside, creating a semi-alfresco ambience throughout. In summer, outside tables are available for seating. Roka's interior was created by Noriyoshi Muramatsu in collaboration with Tokyo's esteemed Super Potato architecture and design company. Its rustic yet contemporary interior is complemented by exotic hardwoods and contrasts with the thriving activity of the street outside, visible through floor to ceiling windows.
Award-winning Roka brings informal Japanese dining to NoHo. The open kitchen features a robata grill serving up smoky Japanese vegetables and meat whilst the house dishes bring gyoza and rice pots to the table. There’s sushi and sashimi too, and a sochu bar, but the star of the show is the tasting menu taking you on a Japanese journey through six courses. We like this place in the summer when the glass front opens up onto the terrace and the streets of London make a great playground for people watching. And window shopping.
