Hakkasan celebrates the ancient Chinese culinary ritual with “Dim Sum Sundays”. Dim sum, or ‘touching the heart’, has developed over hundreds of years, but has its roots in the providing of sustenance and the facilitating of rest and conversation. Priced at £58 per person, the 6-course menu has been created by Chef Ho Hip Wah, Hakkasan Hanway Place’s Chef de Cuisine. Dim Sum Sundays is a weekly event, with the menu available every Sunday from 12midday – 5pm. The menu encompasses our idea of “modern authenticity” which is at the heart of everything at Hakkasan. We acknowledge tradition while embracing and crafting change. Highlights include the Crispy duck salad, Chinese chive dumpling with prawn and crabmeat, Crispy smoked duck and pumpkin puff, Pork and prawn shumai and Grilled Chilean sea bass.
Hakkasan Hanway Place is the original restaurant of Hakkasan that opened in 2001 in London. Designed by famed designer Christian Liaigre, the space embodies the Hakkasan design ethos of the modern ethnic now found in Hakkasan restaurants around the world. Wooden screens and latticing made of dark English oak is the same luxuriant material used for the 16-metre bar, and the Ling Ling dining area evokes old school Chinoiserie decadence, punctuated by black and gold traditionally drawn panels. An open-plan kitchen is visible from the restaurant, making the activity in the kitchen part of the restaurant’s theatre.
The restaurant is headed by head chef Tong Chee Hwee, who has been with Hakkasan since its inception. Chef Tong was instrumental in creating the restaurant’s signature dishes like Peking duck with caviar and grilled Wagyu beef with king soy sauce, and bringing them to Hakkasan restaurants worldwide. A dim sum, dessert and lunch menu are also available, as is Hakkasan’s award-winning wine list and signature cocktails. In 2003 the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star, which it has retained to this day, continuing to place Hakkasan at the forefront of modern Chinese cuisine.
Tumble down the proverbial rabbit hole into the Asian luxury of your dreams. The dim sum are tiny mouthfuls of perfection but it’s the juicy pomelo and duck salad that really steals the show. Hakkassan represents a sliding scale between amazing and incredible with delightful Dim Sum dishes, bursting with strong and diverse flavours and textures. The attentive service and the multi-million pound wall-to-wall magnificence of the surroundings makes you feel like a VIP upon entry. Intimacy and comfort oozes out of the elaborate screens and cloaks you in robes of utter relaxation. A perfect way to spend your Sunday (or any) afternoon, evening or night. This my friends, is a game changer.
