Dishoom is a Bombay Café in London. The Old Irani Cafes of Bombay have almost all disappeared. Their faded elegance welcomed all: rich businessmen, sweaty taxi-wallas and courting couples. Fans turned slowly. Bentwood chairs were reflected in stained mirrors, next to sepia family portraits. Students had breakfast. Families dined. Lawyers read briefs. Writers found their characters.
Though it doesn’t boast the same size as the King’s Cross or Shoreditch branches, Dishoom Covent Garden still delivers fantastic Indian comfort food in a very relaxed yet vibrant setting. Position-wise it’s Central enough to provide a swift get-away from the hubbub of Covent Garden, yet discreet enough to avoid being over-loaded by tourists. The massive windows provide a scope for some quality people watching and being so close to theatre land means you’re not too far from some of London’s best food after a show.
