Four Hundred Rabbits is a brand new restaurant experience from the team behind The Lido Café, offering the highest quality beer and pizza and coming soon to Crystal Palace… But wait. What’s that you say? What do rabbits have to do with beer and pizza? Well, allow us to explain… It’s actually quite straightforward. Thousands of years ago the Aztecs worshipped a God of fermentation and a Goddess of alcohol. According to Aztec lore, these two deities got it on and the results of this union were no fewer than Four Hundred Rabbits! This bumper brood of bunnies then proceeded to have a good time all the time and what else would you expect given their parentage! Fast forward to the present day and without alcohol and fermentation we wouldn’t have beer or pizza, and as we believe everyone deserves a taste of the good life, the restaurant was named in honour of the Four Hundred Rabbits.
Now, where were we? That’s right, beer and pizza! Four Hundred Rabbits use sourdough to make their pizzas, giving the dough a deeper and more interesting flavour whilst keeping a lighter texture and crust. The toppings will be taken from the UK’s most amazing artisanal producers and will follow the food seasons closely, with fresh vegetables such as artichokes, corn and asparagus all set to feature. Fior di Latte Mozzarella and San Marzano Tomatoes are essential for a good pizza and create the perfect base for ingredients like British charcuterie and slow smoked rare breed brisket.
Now that new British brewers are producing some of the best beers in the world, what could be better to wash down all that delicious pizza with? There will be four rotating beers on tap and six in bottles and cans, all will be artisan - naturally. Four Hundred Rabbits will also be serving it’s beer in Schooners and soon in Growlers to take away, so come along if you’re up for an education in the trendy world of craft beers… And we didn’t even make a joke about “hops”!
Of course, there’s more to life than beer and pizza, although not much more admittedly. At Four Hundred Rabbits you will also be able to find red, white and sparkling wine on tap, and London’s cheapest Negroni (which just so happens to also one of its best - it’s even aged in an oak barrel). If you’re not feeling the influence of the Goddess of Alcohol, it also offers coffee from Allpress, one of London’s best roasters, made by awesome baristas, alongside a range of cold-pressed juices from Peckham. For those with a sweet tooth there will be a selection of gorgeous Gelupo Gelato to choose from. Created in Soho, and now famed around the world, this is the best artisanal ice-cream the UK has to offer, and is made using seasonal ingredients and refreshing flavour combinations.
No rabbits in sight here, just good old sourdough pizza and craft beer down Crystal Palace way. Kick off with a £3.50 negroni and then jump into some doughy action with toppings such as Fior di Latte mozzarella and San Marzano tomato, charcuterie and smoked brisket. Finish up with Gelup gelato and Allpress coffee. The story behind the name? Apparently two Aztec gods of fermentation and alcoholic got it on and gave birth to 400 hedonistic little bunnies - they created pizza and beer somewhere along the way, right?
