The second half of our round-up of Michelin star restaurants with great lunch menus brings together a host of Mayfair stalwarts and throws a couple of others in the mix. We know how it goes, you want something extra civilised but it's a little close to payday - these beauties have you covered. Now don't say we don't treat you.
Angela Hartnett is a formidable face in the kitchen and rightly so. Her one star Murano is one of the few Italian restaurants to be awarded the accolade by Michelin and we think it's partly down to her stepping away from 'fine' dining to be 'fun' dining. The lunch menu is fresh and friendly and you'll easily find something to suit even the fussiest of diners, and this is a great place for the girls.
Sitting pretty atop the Hilton Park Lane, Galvin at Windows offers you a more scenic view of London. TTF's Fran sampled the evening menu but we like the lunch menu too as you're not simply being palmed off with some slightly popular dishes but instead presented with a rabbit wellington which certainly fights off some stiff competition. This is classic cuisine done well and perfect for a spot of client lunching and lording it over the city below.
Next up, it's the turn of the Scandinavians with Texture. British produce and Scandi ingredients come together in a harmony of...you guessed it, different textures and tastes. The lunch menu is simple and all the better for it, focusing on bringing everything together in one big ball of summery deliciousness. As with all great places, there's even a champagne bar to start and end up in because even though you're doing blowout on a budget, there's always time for bubbles.
Petrus is one of those uber trendy, everyone's going there kind of places and it's part of the Gordon Ramsay empire. It's good though, with rich and hearty dishes by way of France making their way to the table. Forget dainty, it's time to dig in here because you'll need some fortitude before tackling the 2,000 wine bottles in the middle of the restaurant.
Indian food with a British twist is the theme at Benares and boy, are there some big flavours here. The whole place is vibrant and the menu boasts some brilliant combinations that we'd never think to put together - but then again, that's why we're not Michelin starred chefs like Atul Kochhar. A far cry from their compatriots in Brick Lane, Benares is half the world away.
Dabbous was on everyone's lips when it first opened and trying to get a table was nigh impossible. Thankfully getting a reservation is slightly more attainable and it's been worth the wait. Achingly trendy, it's riding the industrial wave from the decor to the food with some resolutely British influences across both. The set lunch is simple, changes daily and shows off Ollie's skill at turning his hand to anything (his other place is popular Barnyard).
Angler is another reason to head east, specifically to the slightly less sexy area of Moorgate. Our Llewellyn is a big fan of Angler and we can see why - some impressive views of town and some equally impressive dishes to tuck into, the fish fans will enjoy themselves here. You'll find sustainably sourced (of course) scallops and crab starters, bream and cod to follow and alternatives for those who prefer their food with legs, or the animal-free variety.
Part of the fabulous Hakkasan family, HKK is another place worth heading east to. Choose from the meat, fish or vegetarian menu or if you have an unsatiable craving for duck, there's also a five course duck-only offering. Nice, huh? The food here is refined with a flair.
Hibiscus began life in Ludlow, Shropshire but Claude Bosi soon brought the successful restaurant to London where it continues to delight diners with its molecular gastronomy. There's all manners of foams, purees and everything in between so eating here is quite special because you've got to admit, there's something exceedingly exciting about advanced chemistry in the kitchen, or is it just us?
One of the most affordable Michelin starred lunch menus around, Kitchen W8 is a Kensington neighbourhood favourite. They're less about the pomp and circumstance and more about accessibility with familiar ingredients given new leases of life. They want you to come back again and again so this makes a lot of sense and we're sure you'll want to thanks to the friendly staff and the ample opportunities for people-watching.
Simple, seasonal food is the order of the day courtesy of Nathan Outlaw and Pete Biggs at Knightsbridge's The Capital Hotel. The cladded dining room serves as the perfect venue for a classic set lunch menu where, naturally, seafood is championed. You can also go for the Summer Menu and get free cheese and whiskey on Tuesdays, or BYO on Thursdays. So many decisions to make, we're sure you'll make the right one.
The sister restaurant to Michelin winner Arbutus Wild Honey is a contemporary kitchen in a classic English dining room. There's a French influence here apparently but we think they've drawn inspiration from all over Europe to collate their lunch menus for those on the go. There are no surprises here so you can rest easy whatever you choose from the three-three-three menu will go down a storm. Loosen your belts then hit the boutiques.
